Why Should I Exercise?
I know, I know, finding the time to exercise is HARD!! We should look at all the benefits, it is not just about losing weight. Many people ask the question "why should I exercise?". Some people are still in pain when they are first asked by a doctor to start moving their body again. When people are in pain it is the very last thing they want to do but it is important to keep the body moving. We have talked about many reasons why Pilates is a great form of exercise in other sections of this web site but there are more benefits to consider. So what are some more benefits of exercise? - Regular exercise improves sleep.
- Increases flexibility
- Increased bone strength
- Endorphins are released.
- Reduced severity of pain
- Weight loss
- Lowering of blood pressure
- Reduced risk of diabetes
- Lowering of bad cholesterol levels
- Increased blood flow to the brain
- Looking and feeling younger
- Lowering the risk of cancer
- Reduced stress and anxiety
Pretty impressive list.......the last three medical conditions if left unchecked can lead to a heart attack. Benefits of sleep There are many benefits of just getting a good night of sleep. Your immune system is strengthened, regulated carbohydrate metabolism, this helps to prevent you from putting on weight.YES! The nervous system gets a rest and the energy cells in the brain are replenished. The energy cells in the brain repair cellular damage. The list goes on but you get the point. Women tend to suffer from insomnia more than men. One reason is menopause. There is also a connection between depression and lack of good sleep. Exercise as mentioned before releases endorphins which are the feel good hormones. Endorphins are our natural pain killers. More Flexibility Pilates can help to reduce joint stiffness. If your muscles start to shorten and become tight then movement is restricted. Some would argue that increased flexibility in the neck, shoulder and upper back may also improve respiration. If there was a pill that incorporated all of these benefits and more wouldn't everyone want to take it?
